Investigators determined that an unidentified vehicle was traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard when it struck Tate in the roadway. Tate was subsequently struck by a Metro light-rail vehicle, police said, while the driver of the first vehicle fled the scene.
No description of the vehicle was immediately released. Patch first reported on the fatal collision Sept. 6, before Tate’s identity had been released.
