The preliminary investigation found that Banderas had been walking east across Pacific Avenue outside a marked crosswalk and stepped into the roadway from the center median. Police said he was first struck by an unidentified white SUV, followed by what investigators initially described as an unidentified dark-colored sedan. A third vehicle, a 2021 Jaguar, then struck Banderas.
The Jaguar driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, while the drivers of the first two vehicles did not stop, according to earlier police information. Monday’s update focused on the black sedan and did not provide any new information about the white SUV or its driver. Investigators previously said speed, distracted driving and impaired driving did not appear to have been factors in the collision.
