Thousands of residents in Southern California are facing the threat of a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) as the region contends with rising temperatures and intense Santa Ana winds, warned Southern California Edison (SCE) on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued multiple weather-related advisories concerning heat and wind for various coastal areas, LA County’s basin, and the valleys of San Bernardino and Riverside County. In light of this, SCE mentioned that customers in these advisories may experience a PSPS as a precautionary measure.
Power shutoffs are currently in effect or being considered due to heightened wildfire risks in these SoCal counties:
- Los Angeles County – 95,284 customers
- Ventura County – 12,9217 customers
- Santa Barbara County – 12,955 customers
