PALM DESERT, CA — A man threatening to jump from the Monterey Avenue overpass into westbound traffic on Interstate 10 in Palm Desert was safely talked down Wednesday midday, authorities say.
Just after 11:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department were alerted that an unidentified man was threatening to leap from that overpass into traffic.
About 30 minutes later, he was safely taken into custody by Riverside County sheriff’s deputies, according to CHP dispatch.
Officers would take him to a county health facility for psychiatric evaluation, they said.
Traffic has resumed through the area, and no other information was immediately available.
