Miami flips five-star corner Donte Wright Jr. from Georgia

The Hurricanes picked up a huge commitment on Saturday, landing five-star cornerback Donte Wright Jr.

Wright, a California native, flipped his commitment from Georgia to Miami. Wright is listed as the No. 2 cornerback and No. 9 player in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He announced his flip on social media.

“After a lot of prayer, thought (and) talks with my family,” Wright wrote on social media, “I would like to announce I will be committing to the University of Miami.”

Wright, listed at 6 feet 1 and 170 pounds, had been committed to the Bulldogs since June 30, 2025.

Wright had 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and seven pass breakups as a junior at Long Beach Poly in Long Beach, California.

Wright is a “coverage ace that could be a difference-maker for any Power Four defense with his speed, twitch and physicality,” according to his 247Sports scouting report.

Wright is the second cornerback in the Hurricanes’ 2027 class, joining Sherrod Gourdine. He is the third five-star prospect in the class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings; he joins quarterback Israel Abrams and wide receiver Nick Lennear as five-star UM commits.
