Long Beach Wilson Smashes 4×4 CA Record, Moves To US No. 3


The quartet entered the relay after an already grueling day of competition, during which all four had qualified individually for the CIF State ChampionshipsMost notably, they all qualified for the open 400m in dominant fashion, finishing 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th. Sanaiah Varnado also qualified in the 100m and 300m hurdles, while Clara Adams qualified in the 200m dash.

With mileage already in their legs, the Bruins put on a one-of-a-kind show in the 4x400m from the start, with Blue getting them out to an early lead with an unofficial split of 54.8. Then, Fowler extended their lead with an unofficial 53.8-second leg, passing off to the CIF-SS Masters champion, Clara Adams. Adams ripped a 52.5 split to give Wilson a commanding lead entering the anchor leg. Varnado anchored the Bruins with 52.7 to break the California record.
