The streets of San Diego are awash in orange, and it has nothing to do with citrus. It’s nearly time for the Syracuse University football squad to compete in the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl.
On the eve of the highly anticipated game, the interiors of the San Diego Marriott Marquis were adorned with SU colors. Fans expressed their eagerness for the Orange to face off against the Washington State Cougars at Snapdragon Stadium.
Cooper Enright, 16, made the journey from Syracuse for this significant occasion, following a remarkable season in Coach Fran Brown’s inaugural year.
“It’s been fantastic,” remarked Enright. “I really admire (Kyle) McCord and the entire team. Fran Brown is an outstanding coach.”
Janet Shusta Recchia, an alumna and SU’s assistant director of admissions for Southern California, who operates out of Los Angeles, shared her excitement when the team was selected to head west for the bowl game.
“It’s incredible to see how many alumni from Southern California are in attendance,” she noted. “Our alumni base is extensive, and having this Holiday Bowl game here is very meaningful.”
The Orange football team will match up against Washington State Friday night at 8 p.m. EST, which can be viewed on FOX Sports.
