Evacuations ordered in fast-moving Campo fire – San Diego Union-Tribune

Evacuations have been mandated following the outbreak of a brush fire in the Campo region on Monday afternoon.

The fire, which ignited near Church Road, had expanded to 132 acres by around 3:45 p.m. and was progressing at a “moderate to dangerous rate of spread,” according to Cal Fire Capt. Joshua Cormode. Within approximately an hour, the rapidly spreading fire increased in size from about 20 acres to over six times that.

Cormode mentioned that there is a potential risk to nearby structures.

The evacuation zone extends approximately from Church Road east to Tierra Heights Road and encompasses the Live Oak Springs community off Old Highway 80.

Evacuation alerts have been issued for the region stretching from Tierra Heights Road to Ribbonwood Road, as per the Genasys Protect app, utilized by San Diego County officials to display evacuation areas.

Authorities have instructed evacuees to head to Golden Acorn Casino, located just south of Interstate 8.

A smoke advisory is currently in effect for adjacent communities, including Boulevard, Manzanita, and McCain Valley.
