A tragic incident occurred in San Diego this past weekend, where a pregnant teenager was reportedly shot and killed by her boyfriend while on a family trip.
Authorities arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a shooting around 1 a.m. on Saturday. They discovered a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the head, as per police accounts.
Visiting from Arizona and approximately 32 weeks along in her pregnancy, she was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors performed an emergency cesarean section to try and save the baby, according to investigators.
While the newborn is in critical condition, the mother tragically passed away at the hospital.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 19-year-old Trevon Williams, who allegedly traveled separately from Arizona to meet the victim at the short-term rental in Bay Park where she was staying with her family.
After the alleged shooting, Williams reportedly fled into a nearby canyon, as stated by police.
Investigators tracked down the suspect around 3 a.m. with a semi-automatic handgun and took him into custody without incident.
Williams faces murder charges and has been booked into the San Diego County Jail, according to reports.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293.
