  22. Pizza Cassette, Cucina Caprese, and Tavola Nostra would like a word with you. I am a native New Yorker that's been to all these places, except the spot at Pure Project, which I can't speak of but looks amazing. They all suck compared to the three recommended! Bronx and Luigi's are unacceptable. Buona Forchetta hasn't made decent food in years – you should have seen their disastrous abortion of a BBQ restaurant. I won't even speak of anything deep dish.
Square Pizza is excellent for what it is, and if you're a fan of their style, Piccati and Gelati offer excellent squares in the thin, crispy Roman style.

  38. Pauly's Pizza Joint off of Mirimar Rd. I had an old coworker who was from Brooklyn, tell me it's the closest to New York he has found in San Diego. Give it a try

  39. Went today to Urbn in North Park to try the potato and bacon pizza after watching this video. Got the small, and it’s not round, but rectangle and the whole thing was about 1mm thick. NO mashed potato on it whatsoever! If it’s on there it’s aless than paper thin smear. Just tasted like deep fried oily bread and the crust is hard and hard to chew. Not pleasant. Sad.

  41. I’ll never understand the hype of Bronx. I try every few years and never impressed. It’s no better than 7-11 or Little Caesar’s. I’ll stick to Lefty’s (although going downhill), Luigi’s, Gnarly Girl, Filippi’s, Whispering Tree, Bullpen, Pizzo’s, Woodstock’s, Hoboken, Sandbox, Mom & Dom’s (closed 😢), etc.

  42. Good shit my guy. You never fail on the proper rec's. Bronx before Luigi's but Luigi's does hold it down. Honorably mention to @pizzakaiju, and of course @its_breadandbutter cus their pizza pop-ups are a @boodlefightsd favorite! ✨ … also it's not fair, but Prince St. came to town, so you gotta mention them too! 🤙🏽

  48. Ok, this needs to be said. As someone who worked in Manhattan a block away from the Ray’s Pizza identified by Santa in Elf, and lived in New Haven, just because something is the STYLE of pizza doesn’t mean it is necessarily as good.
There are tons of New York style pizza in places IN NEW YORK that suck. But Santa was right about Ray’s.
New Haven is world famous for pizza as three locations there constantly rank among the top 10 in the country. URBN is New Haven STYLE, and it is good, but definitely not as good as the places in New Haven. Because New Haven is hardly a tourist destination like NYC, where people will plunk down too much cash for little quality, places all around New Haven, including suburbs, have to have a strong pizza game. Average places in New Haven will be some of the best pizza you’ve had anywhere. Also, New Haven’s roots are ITALIAN, so don’t much it up with exotic, gourmet, or non-traditional ingredients. That ain’t New Haven style pizza.
