  1. The Battle of Los Angeles, also known as the Great Los Angeles Air Raid, occurred on February 24-25, 1942, just a few months after the United States entered World War II following the attack on Pearl Harbor.

On that night, a series of events led to a blackout in Los Angeles, due to fears of a Japanese attack on the West Coast. At around 2:25 a.m., an unidentified object was spotted over Los Angeles. This prompted an intense anti-aircraft artillery barrage from the U.S. Army.

For about an hour, the skies over Los Angeles were lit up by searchlights and gunfire, creating a chaotic scene. However, despite firing thousands of rounds of ammunition, no enemy aircraft were shot down.

The object was later determined to be a false alarm, likely caused by a combination of anxiety, war nerves, and possibly weather balloons or meteorological phenomena. The incident resulted in minor damage and several deaths from friendly fire and accidents.

Although there was never a confirmed explanation for what exactly triggered the events of that night, the Battle of Los Angeles remains a fascinating and mysterious chapter in American history. It’s often cited in discussions about UFOs and government cover-ups, but most historians believe it was a case of wartime fears combined with misidentification. The official likely was a weather balloon. 5 people died, 2 from car crash and 3 from wartime heart attacks caused by the chaos
