Footage from a security camera at a neighboring residence recorded the moment an explosion at a house shook a Long Beach community. One individual who was present in the residence sustained injuries in the intense blast, which raised the roof off the dwelling and scattered fragments. Residents reported feeling the blast from several blocks away. “I just witnessed this massive explosion. I saw the roof of the house at the same elevation as the tree,” stated onlooker Juan Romero, who resides nearby. “I was at that stop sign and narrowly escaped being hit by debris. It was severe.” “My mother mentioned that the mirrors fell from the walls and other items as well; it was really terrible.” Several residents rushed towards the structure, an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) on West 28th Street close to Gale Avenue, after the 11 a.m. explosion to check if anyone required assistance. Romero mentioned seeing someone emerging from the debris. The man, in his 30s, was taken to the hospital, but information about his status was not readily available. “Honestly, that’s somewhat of a miracle,” Romero remarked. “Given the magnitude of that explosion, I truly feared the worst case scenario, to be completely frank.” The main building on the premises suffered minor damages. Information regarding the cause of the explosion was not immediately disclosed. Earlier, the city of Long Beach placed a notice at the location stating that the detached structure was not permitted. Gilman Springs Road Shut Down

BEAUMONT, CA — Gilman Springs Road in the vicinity of Beaumont is shut down in both directions and will continue to be until Nov. 21 owing to construction activities. The complete closure between Bridge Street and slightly south of Alessandro Boulevard commenced at 6 a.m. on Oct. 5. The construction efforts encompass the creation of a new wildlife crossing and the expansion of the road’s shoulders and central median. This activity is part of the $30 million Gilman Springs Road Safety Enhancement Project, anticipated to conclude in the spring. Source link

An accessory dwelling unit or ADU in Long Beach exploded Monday morning, injuring at least one person, the Long Beach Fire Department said. The explosion happened at around 11 a.m. in the building located in the back of a property on Gale Avenue at West 28th Street. After a man in his late 30s was extricated from the rubble, he was taken to a trauma center in unknown condition. The ADU is a total loss, the fire department said, as inspectors continued to investigate the cause of the explosion. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a small fire that started with the explosion. The front building on the property sustained minor damage. The garden walls next to the neighbor’s house appeared to be damaged as well. Source link

LONG BEACH, CA — Dog Haus Biergarten — a staple on the Promenade in downtown Long Beach for the past several years — is hosting its first-ever Oktoberfest celebration this year. The celebration kicked off on Sept. 3 and is going until Oct. 31. While the restaurant has offered a handful of new menu items since Oktoberfest began in on Sept. 3, it just added a new deal on Monday — $2 off a pint of Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier with the purchase of sliced Oktoberwürst sausage. The deal is offered all day, every day, the eatery said. More Oktoberfest specials include the Oktoberwürst ($10), a beer cheese pretzel bratwurst with caramelized onions, grilled sauerkraut, mustard aioli and scallions on grilled King’s Hawaiian rolls; the Oktoberürst Burrito ($13.50) with a beer cheese pretzel bratwurst, three sunny-side-up eggs, caramelized onions, scallions, crispy tater tots and spicy mayo inside a flour tortilla; salted pretzel bites with beer cheese dipping sauce ($11) and cinnamon sugar pretzel bites ($12). More Oktoberfest drinks, including Jägermeister shots, will also be on special. “Oktoberfest is our way of honoring our favorite German tradition while offering menu items that you rarely find on this side of the pond,” Dog Haus Founding Partner André Vener said in a release. “We’ve crafted unique dishes that capture the essence of German cuisine and we’re proud to pair them with iconic brands like Paulaner and Jägermeister. PALM DESERT, CA — Riverside County braced for near triple-digit heat again Monday before the dangerous heat wave drifted from the southland. The National Weather Service says relief is on the way, with temperatures over 5 to 10 degrees cooler by week’s end. The lingering heatwave broke record temperatures in many Riverside County cities Sunday, specifically the desert cities of Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Borrego Indio, Ramona, and San Jacinto. It was 106 in San Jacinto on Sunday, breaking the record for the day of 102 set in 1996. It was 99 in Ramona, breaking the record for the day of 98 set in 2017. It was 115 in Palm Springs, breaking the record for the day of 112 set in 1980. It was 116 in Indio, breaking the record for the day of 111 set in 1952. It was 111 in Borrego, breaking the record for the day of 108 set in 1991. According to the National Weather Service, an excessive heat warning remains through 8 p.m. Monday. Cooling centers for people and pets remain open through 6:00 p.m. Monday in the city of Riverside. Other information on cooling centers in Riverside County is available at capriverside.org/cool-centers. Riverside County residents can expect temperatures to drop slightly on Tuesday. The Temecula Valley high temperature will fall to 92 degrees, the Riverside metropolitan area will drop slightly to 95 degrees, and the Coachella Valley will remain at 106 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, that weather pattern will remain in effect through the end of the week, with overnight lows falling to the low 60s all week across Riverside and the Temecula Valley.
