The Battle of Los Angeles, also known as the Great Los Angeles Air Raid, occurred on February 24-25, 1942, just a few months after the United States entered World War II following the attack on Pearl Harbor.
On that night, a series of events led to a blackout in Los Angeles, due to fears of a Japanese attack on the West Coast. At around 2:25 a.m., an unidentified object was spotted over Los Angeles. This prompted an intense anti-aircraft artillery barrage from the U.S. Army.
For about an hour, the skies over Los Angeles were lit up by searchlights and gunfire, creating a chaotic scene. However, despite firing thousands of rounds of ammunition, no enemy aircraft were shot down.
The object was later determined to be a false alarm, likely caused by a combination of anxiety, war nerves, and possibly weather balloons or meteorological phenomena. The incident resulted in minor damage and several deaths from friendly fire and accidents.
Although there was never a confirmed explanation for what exactly triggered the events of that night, the Battle of Los Angeles remains a fascinating and mysterious chapter in American history. It’s often cited in discussions about UFOs and government cover-ups, but most historians believe it was a case of wartime fears combined with misidentification. The official likely was a weather balloon. 5 people died, 2 from car crash and 3 from wartime heart attacks caused by the chaos

Soldiers manned empty aircraft weapons and several spotlights searched the sky for enemy's by 3:00 A.M. there were reports of unidentified flying objects and some soldiers finally lost their nerve opening fire this started a chain reaction and before long units opened down the coast were unleashing a wild marauge of orange bullets and that's it (good?,)
@BB_78b
By 2:25 A.M. air raid sirens sounded across the city and a total blackout was ordered
@BB_78b
Somewhere around 2:00 A.M. early the next morning radars picked up senses that looked like enemy ships about 120 miles away and closing in fast
@BB_78b
It started the navy black night telling the air units all along the west coast to prepare for a possible overnights attack the sailor's manned their stations and waited…
@BB_78b
What happened the next night was become known as the battle of Los Angeles
@BB_78b
But it caused the city of the west coast to go in an out right panic of the potential of an invasion
@BB_78b
They finally humbled over on the evening of the 23rd when a submarine surfaced just off the coast of Santa Barbara California and opened fire on an oil land the damage was minimum and no one was hurt
@BB_78b
So on February 1942 the sunny city of Los Angeles was fully afraid of invasion a
@BB_78b
And over days and weeks are longs to win or confusion for approaching war or submarines
@BB_78b
As you might imagine tenches were high all across to the country and fear another surprising attack and people were addicted to it just 2 days after pearl harbor had reports of enemy aircrafts near New York City sent the big apocalypse into a big panic
