  4. I wonder if the reason for the subdued atmosphere at the gate is because fewer people from the Netherlands are traveling to the USA under Trump. Could it be? Not sure.

  5. We are SO excited to add KLM to our list of international flights out of San Diego! BA and Lufthansa are great, especially with Lufthansa’s fantastic new Allegris Class I’m trying out in a few months. Looking forward to trying KLM next year.

  7. Be prepared for San Diego. It has gone downhill like San Francisco and Los Angeles. Homeless and drugs everywhere. Homeless and hundreds of people living in cars at our deteriorating beaches. Streets are full of potholes, trash everywhere. It ain't what it used to be.

  11. I enjoy KLM but I agree, their flagship lounge in A'dam is pitiful and feels they are really cutting corners. The air service from the west coast ( I use Vancouver) has a good schedule. The seats are comfy and the service is friendly.

  12. Com on man! Navy Vet here. Coronado bridge was not designed to float. The military has one bldg downtown and is clearly marked.

  14. INCREDIBLE DRIVE AND DETERMINATION. EVERYTHING HONG SAID WAS ON POINT. THIS IS A LESSON FOR IDIOT MAGAS. THESE GUYS ARE IN THE USA BECAUSE A PREVIOUS GOVT. GAVE THEM A CHANCE AND THEY APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY THEY GOT.

  16. A “CONSTRUCTIVE” and honest review; without getting personal – like a lot of so called “experts” have done – which is childish and unacceptable (saying more about the people than the airline). I think these trial flights will really help GLOBAL and its Crews (practically). Yes, James is a great Man and he’s got more about him than any of the haters. I wish them every success and look forward to waving them off in Manchester and with everything crossed – grow into something special.

  17. "Dutch Gin" or "Jenever" is Gin on the basis of corn spirits intead of the neutral spirits that London Dry is made with.

    Lisbon (LIS/LPPT) has more passengers (35 Mill vs 25 Mill), but KSAN does have more aircraft movements (227.5 vs 225 Thousand).

  21. Literally arrived at San Diego last night and didn't realise KLM was only a week old to San Diego.

  23. So excited that we can fly nonstop to AMS !!! It's disappointing and sadly predictable that there's not even one balloon. Europeans know the US as an unquestioned listing of "famous places" meaning that they've seen them on TV. San Diego is not on that list,

  24. I was aboard KLM 609, inaugural flight from Amsterdam – Salt Lake City. Same thing, nothing special at gate, still have photo's. An A330-200, Piazza San Marco. The captain however acknowledged the special flight. Upon arrival in SLC, it was a water cannon greeting and very special feeling as this was the first transoceanic arrival by a carrier other than Delta Air Lines.

  27. Do you find arriving at SAN and getting around convenient? I think KLM should copy British Airways on equipment rotations since it's a long flight for freq flyers.

  30. I'm amazed that some people with whom you spoke at AMS did not know the flight was nonstop. I mean, that information is very clearly stated at multiple points during booking the flight, and even on the ticket/boarding pass. Strange indeed.

    Great flight review as always though. The mini-pancakes looked quite delicious at SAN!

  31. I think with the current events going on in the USA, the flights will sadly be rather empty. I hear of so many non US citizens who are cancelling their trips to the US. So sad.

  32. It's a shame they didn't have any celebration on your departure from AMS. Glad you got to experience the SAN experience for the SAN-AMS flight. When I was still flying as an FA in 2002, i worked the last 727 revenue flight for my airline but there was no celebration, nothing to mark the occasion. I was so disappointed.

    Loved the video and can’t wait to fly KLM someday soon however, this felt like a pretty low key inaugural experience right until the end and I really hope the flight does very well!

  35. SAN and SJC are not comparable imo… SFO-SJC is a 40 min drive in off hours, LAX-SAN is 2.5 hours on a good day. This route will do well. I snagged the only 2 sub 100k J seats I saw for the summer, so I imagine load factor for this first season won't be an issue.

  36. Great review Patrick, however I Greyhounded it from Phoenix to San Diego way back in 1980 something ! Google tells me it was 5 hours. So be It – Cheers x

  38. Former flight attendant here, we were taught in training. Many many years ago a direct flight made one stop and then continued on. A non stop flight is exactly that none stop.😊
