Suspects Arrested For Shooting Of 14-Year-Old In Long Beach


LONG BEACH, CA — Two teens, one from Long Beach and the other from Lakewood, have been arrested regarding the shooting of a 14-year-old in North Long Beach last month.

Detectives have identified the primary suspect as a 14-year-old male resident of Long Beach. He was arrested Feb. 23 in Lakewood.

Also arrested was 19-year-old Long Beach resident Jian Xavier Salas for his alleged involvement in the shooting. Salas was booked for attempted murder and accessory after the fact, and his bail was set at $75,000.

The case originated at about 12:49 p.m. on Feb. 22 when officers responded to the 5300 block of Elm Avenue regarding the shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found a 14-year-old male victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. The boy, who was transported to the hospital in critical condition, is now stable, according to police.

According to LBPD gang detectives, the victim was walking southbound on Locust Avenue when he was approached by a male suspect. The victim attempted to flee on foot, but was shot and then pistol-whipped.

The suspects then fled on foot, according to police.
