Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Collision in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 24, 2025) – Shalanda Young, 36, was killed Tuesday morning in a Long Beach pedestrian accident on Cherry Avenue.
Police reported the collision around 4 a.m. on Sept. 24th near Cherry Avenue and Curry Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Upon arrival, emergency responders located a woman lying in the roadway suffering from major injuries, but despite efforts to save her life she died at the scene, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.
She was later identified by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as Shalanda Young of Long Beach.
Investigators determined a southbound 2015 Honda Civic was traveling on Cherry Avenue and passed Curry Avenue when they noticed a
man in the roadway. That’s when the driver swerved to avoid the man and hit the woman, police said.
The 30-year-old Norwalk man driving the Honda stopped and cooperated with authorities and the investigation.
