The California King Tides occur from Friday, November 15, 2024, to November 17, 2024.
Help visualize rising sea levels by taking photos and contributing them to the California King Tides Project.
Participate to learn about tides and the impact of sea level rise on our local coastline, then head to a nearby marine protected area to document the effects of the King Tides as a citizen scientist for the California King Tides Project.

The California King Tides Project helps visualize potential future sea levels by observing today’s highest tides.
You can contribute by capturing and sharing photos of the shoreline during King Tides to document the changes due to sea level rise.

Guidelines for Taking King Tide Photos

Capture Photos of the Highest Tides

Include Local Infrastructure
(meaning human-made structures in your area, like bridges, roads, seawalls, pathways, etc., affected by the high tides, if possible)

Remember to enable your Geolocation Services.

Safety Information for California King Tides

Never turn your back on the ocean.
Wear appropriate footwear.
Be aware of the weather conditions.
High tides may be higher than usual.
Expect big splashes.
Be alert for flooding.
Pathways or rocks may be slippery.
Watch for large waves.
Stay mindful of marine debris.

Please ensure you are not disturbing any animals that are feeding or roosting.
