Karen Devine To Receive 486th Star On Palm Springs Walk Of The Stars

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Longtime Coachella Valley broadcast journalist Karen Devine will receive the 486th star on the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars this month, the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce announced.

The public dedication ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at 112 N. Palm Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs.

“For nearly 35 years, Devine has been a trusted voice in households across the Coachella Valley. Devine began her desert career in 1992 at NBC Palm Springs (formerly KMIR), where she spent 17 years before joining KESQ News Channel 3 in 2009. As an evening anchor and investigative reporter, she has helped shape the region’s broadcast journalism landscape,” Nona Watson, Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce CEO said in the announcement.

Devine’s reporting as a leading member of the I-Team has held officials accountable, elevated public safety awareness, and sparked community dialogue, including coverage of the opioid crisis that prompted families across the valley to share their stories, according to the chamber’s announcement.

Her Walk of the Stars honor in the humanitarian and entertainment category adds to her lengthy accolades over Devine’s storied career. She has earned multiple Emmy Awards, two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and Golden Mike Awards and received the Athena Award from the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce. Devine was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle and, in 2024, was honored with induction into the Coachella Valley Media Hall of Fame. She was also named “Woman of the Year” in 2019 by California Assemblyman Chad Mayes, according to the announcement.

Beyond the newsroom, Devine has emceed dozens of nonprofit fundraisers and supports organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Palm Springs Women in Film and Television, The Girlfriend Factor and Loma Linda Children’s Center. She has also participated in numerous Walk of the Stars ceremonies and major civic events, including Palm Springs Pride and the DAP Health AIDS Walk.

A La Quinta resident since the early 1990s, Devine raised her family in the Coachella Valley and remains committed to the community she serves both on-air and off.

The dedication ceremony is open to the public.
