Amazing to see the Engine and boiler Plant is open now
I'm a Naval veteran who also operated and worked in the steam plant.
So cool
They do a great job of explaining

Saying the SS United States is the ugliest ship in the world is fighting words for me ππ
@judomike4255
We had Tim the tour guide for the regular tour. Awesome guide
@Smokeyham
What a great tour guide! Very knowledgeable, and handled guests' questions well.
@michaelwood3305
Great tour. I don't think its correct to say the forward engine room and boiler rooms were removed because Cunard did not want the ship to sail again. Whilst the sales contract stipulated the ship would not sail again, the machinery spaces were removed as they intended the space to be re-used – primarily being the Museum of the Sea – which never fully eventuated. They could have left the remaining machinery in place if they had chosen to do so.

Love this tour. It brings me back to when I visited the ship so many years ago. Got to see her when passing by New York. She and the Queen Elizabeth were beautiful sights to behold. Finally got to go aboard her but not until she docked permanently in Long Beach. Praise God sheβs with us today.
@freedomoutlaw777
I really want to be back in California so I can take a tour like that. Really cool tour guide. I have never been on the Queen Mary. You have to take me on one of your special tours when I come to visit.
@cornwallparanormalresearch2378

Great visuals and interesting narrative. Worthwhile video to view and see. Thanks, Matthew, for always being best in class documentary on the Queen!!!
@pawpaws-00
I remember back in the 80s when the town was open and the spruce goose was there. I remember back then a friend told me that the queen mary was hiring security and paid good but the only thing is it was for graveyard shift and people don't last long. My friend said the first few nights someone walks with you at night to show you around after that your patrol the ship on your own in the dark with a flashlight. He said the ship was haunted and that's why people quit. I went to the queen mary to apply for the security job and I asked a security guard if the ship was haunted he kinda laughed and told me they weren't allowed to talk about it. This was back in the 1980s and they probably thought it would be bad publicity about the ghost on the ship.

Are you still planning to review old ocean liner movies? cause I'd actually watch that series!
@kendallballard9663
Had the opportunity to attend this fantastic tour along with Matthew when this was filmed. The tour was interesting, informative and a lot of fun; we were lucky to have Tim showing us around, such a nice guy and so knowledgable too. The Steam and Steel tour is a must if you visit the QM, I highly recommend, and thanks so much Matthew for posting this for all those who can't take the tour in person. Looking forward to more great videos in the future, as always!
@DrapPep

@Matthew S. Richards — LOL Okay, so I want to know… the tour is supposed to be 1 hour long… how long was Tim's tour on this adventure?!? πJust like my days as a tour guide, Tim's tour's MUST go over their 1 hour timeframe! 30 minutes into the tour (and thats edited footage) and he is just NOW taking his group into the Engine Room! π I can totally see why though… he had some REALLY GOOD guests asking some REALLY GOOD questions!
@getting_there_is_half_the_fun
Excellent video! I met Tim on July 8th prior to the Blue Riband Rendezvous event. He is a 'fine jewel in the Queen's crown' of fabulous tour guides that are currently working on board. Glad you were able to have him as your guide!
