Is Harrison Ford considering retirement soon?!
At an Apple TV press event in Los Angeles on Tuesday, the 83-year-old actor mentioned that he would feel content if his performance in “Shrinking” marked the end of his career.
“Where do you go from here? The kind of work we can produce is incredible, considering the tools at our disposal and the premise behind this show. If it ended here, it would be enough,” Ford stated during a panel with his co-stars, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The “Star Wars” icon added, “This has been a unique type of role for me, and I’ve been in this industry for a considerable time. This is truly special and it enriches me, making me feel like what we’re accomplishing holds value and significance. I seek that in my life and am grateful to have found it here.”
Ford portrays Dr. Paul Rhoades, a therapist diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, alongside Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, and Luke Tennie in “Shrinking.”
His performance garnered him his first Emmy nomination last year, along with nominations for a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, and SAG awards.
In the upcoming season, Ford will share scenes with Michael J. Fox, who has Parkinson’s in real life, playing a patient with a neurodegenerative disorder.
At the panel, Ford discussed his experience acting alongside the “Back to the Future” star, saying, “It was a little intimidating because I’m embodying a character with Parkinson’s, while Michael has the authentic experience. I’ve always felt a deep responsibility to accurately portray that aspect of the character.”
“However, Michael is an exceptional, generous, and kind individual. I had the chance to get to know him through this project. It was an incredible experience working with him. He has such a commanding presence, grace, courage, and resilience, and I hope to channel some of that into my portrayal of a character with Parkinson’s.”
Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991 at the age of 29 and recently shared with Vanity Fair that Ford’s portrayal in “Shrinking” moved him “to tears,” stating, “What I didn’t expect was how much of his own insight into the disease he infused into the role. I saw Parkinson’s reflected in his eyes. The sensations I recognized were mirrored in his expressions.”
