DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA β Firefighters knocked down an apartment fire early Thursday morning in Desert Hot Springs that displaced 12 people.
The fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at a two-story apartment building in the 11500 block of Ocotillo Road near 4th Street, said Capt. John Clingingsmith Jr. of Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Among the twelve people displaced were six adults and six juveniles, according to Cal Fire. Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents.
The first firefighting unit that responded to the blaze reported heavy fire and smoke coming from one of the apartments on the second floor. A second alarm was requested, and the fire was knocked down around 1:15 AM, according to Cal Fire.
The fire was contained to one apartment on the second floor.
Ocotillo Road was temporarily closed from 4th Street to 2nd Street but reopened hours later.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
