The New York Times A minor, 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck in Southern California on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The temblor happened at 12:27 p.m. Pacific time about 15 miles southwest of Palm Springs, Calif., data from the agency shows. As seismologists review available data, they may revise the earthquake’s reported magnitude. Additional information collected about the earthquake may also prompt U.S.G.S. scientists to update the shake-severity map. Aftershocks in the region An aftershock is usually a smaller earthquake that follows a larger one in the same general area. Aftershocks are typically minor adjustments along the portion of a fault that slipped at the time of the initial earthquake. Quakes and aftershocks within 100 miles Aftershocks can occur days, weeks or even years after the first earthquake. These events can be of equal or larger magnitude to the initial earthquake, and they can continue to affect already damaged locations. Air Rescuers Save Injured Hiker From This RivCo Mountain Trail

PALM DESERT, CA — A hiker was rescued Monday after possibly suffering a medical emergency on a Palm Desert trail. The rescue was reported shortly after 8:20 a.m. Monday on Painter’s Path, a path connected to the Bump and Grind Trail, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The injured hiker told authorities she was experiencing a medical episode, Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez said of the incident. Due to her injuries and accessibility, the woman was airlifted from the mountain and taken to Eisenhower Medical Center by ground ambulance. Identifying information on the hiker was not immediately available, nor was the nature of the emergency. The Bump and Grind trail is considered a moderate hike, a loop trail that spans three miles, with hairpin turns that hikers must traverse about 1.25 miles in, according to Visit Greater Palm Springs.
