California Highway Patrol officers were called at 8:34 p.m. to the freeway near the Long Beach Boulevard on-ramp, where they found the pedestrian lying on the right side of the freeway, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of the third and fourth lanes of the northbound freeway for several hours. Temperatures are projected to be noticeably cooler from Saturday through the following week, as a series of storms travel across the area, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS also noted a possibility of light rain over the weekend, which could affect the Oscars scheduled for Sunday. A potentially stronger storm is forecasted for next Wednesday and Thursday. Currently, there’s a 60% probability of rain on Oscar Sunday. On Saturday, Los Angeles and Orange counties can expect cool conditions with a high of 62 degrees. There’s a slight chance of rain Saturday, which escalates to a 60% chance on Sunday. The valleys and Inland Empire are also forecasted to achieve a high of 62 degrees on Saturday, with a 10% chance of rain that increases to 60% on Sunday. Beaches will experience a combination of morning clouds and afternoon sunlight, with a high of 61 degrees expected. In mountain areas, anticipate an afternoon high of 52 and a low of 30 overnight, with the possibility of snow on Sunday at the 5,500-foot elevation. Deserts will see partly sunny skies with a high reaching 72 degrees on Saturday.
