SAN DIEGO, CA — Officials announced on Wednesday that the application deadline for the San Diego County Grand Jury has been extended.
The San Diego Superior Court is actively seeking applicants to participate in the 2026-27 San Diego County Grand Jury.
While the Grand Jury does not perform criminal investigations, it addresses citizen complaints and fulfills its role as a “watchdog” over government agencies, as stated by the San Diego Superior Court. Interested county residents must submit their applications by January 30.
This 19-member jury will convene four days a week for approximately six hours daily, from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, at the Grand Jury office located in downtown San Diego. Members will receive a modest daily stipend as well as mileage reimbursement, and downtown parking will be provided.
Application forms can be accessed from the San Diego Superior Court’s website or the Grand Jury’s site. Applications can also be requested by calling 619-450-7272 or can be obtained at the Central Courthouse or any of the East County, North County, or South County Regional Centers. Additionally, applications may be submitted online.
Qualified candidates will be selected for a random drawing tentatively set for June 5, 2026. This drawing ensures that each supervisorial district is equally represented based on population, as per the Superior Court’s guidelines.
Applicants must meet the following criteria: be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, possess a sufficient understanding of the English language, have resided in San Diego County for a minimum of one year prior to selection, and successfully pass a criminal background check.
