A notable performer for the Los Angeles Lakers during the preseason has been Adou Thiero. It’s no shock that head coach JJ Redick has placed considerable confidence in him, and it appears that this will be beneficial as the season approaches.
As noted by ClutchPoints’ David Yapkowitz, the forward seems poised for an outstanding season ahead.
“If there’s one player on the roster with a significant chance of having a breakout season, it’s the second-year wing from Arkansas,” Yapkowitz wrote. “Thiero showcases athletic talents that are unmatched on the team. Lakers fans have humorously noted on social media that he often finds himself in bizarre athletic situations that no other player typically encounters.”
Thiero is savoring his first preseason after overcoming an injury last summer. He made his league debut in November, which can be a challenging experience for a young player. This summer, he is fit and prepared to play.
Adou Thiero Anticipated to Have a Breakout Season with Lakers
Thiero has started two out of three preseason games thus far, and in his considerable minutes, he has showcased a glimpse of his potential. His rebounding ability has stood out and contributed significantly to the Lakers in this area. At 6-foot-8, he has the potential to be a valuable resource for Redick.
“He is an electrifying forward looking to dunk every chance he gets near the rim,” Yapkowitz expressed. “Among the Lakers’ players, Thiero likely possesses the most untapped potential. His rookie season was hampered by various injuries, but he enters this year in excellent health.”
With an uninterrupted offseason compared to last year, it feels like a fresh debut season for Thiero, one that he appears ready to embrace. Redick’s confidence in him may elevate his role on the roster, making it more impactful going forward.
Thiero in Strong Contention for a Spot in the Rotation
The objective from the preseason games is for Thiero to exceed the six minutes per game he averaged last season. With the Lakers adding several forward players this summer, securing a starting role may be unlikely, but he is expected to get valuable minutes in a supportive role.
Nothing is set in stone yet, and Thiero’s anticipated position is likely to be within the deeper rotation. His playing time will rely on what he can contribute to the team. Players like Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle, along with rookie Cameron Carr, will also be in the rotation.
“However, the primary area where Thiero can assist the Lakers is on the defensive side,” Yapkowitz noted. “His on-ball pressure during the initial preseason games was prominent. With numerous offensive options at their disposal, focusing on defense will be the pathway for him to secure regular rotation minutes.”
Ultimately, it will be up to Redick to identify which players fit best within both the main and deeper rotation. Nonetheless, Thiero could emerge as a surprisingly valuable asset for the team.
