Haynes Boone has officially opened its 21st global office with the inauguration of a new San Diego location at 12730 High Bluff Drive Ste. 260, which strengthens the firm’s California footprint and improves its capability to serve clients in life sciences, healthcare, and technology sectors in one of the premier research and innovation locales globally.

This San Diego office marks the firm’s fourth in California, joining its locations in Orange County, San Francisco, and Palo Alto. The new office will be led by Office Managing Partner Jeffrey Morton, Ph.D., (pictured) who also co-chairs the firm’s Biotechnology Practice Group.

“Many companies in the life sciences sector require a team that can guide them through each phase of development,” Morton stated. “Haynes Boone’s structure enables our attorneys to assist clients right from the early innovation and intellectual property planning through to financing, transactions, commercialization, and dispute resolution. This is the level of integrated support that companies require as they expand and introduce new technologies to the market.”

San Diego boasts a globally recognized ecosystem of biotechnology enterprises, research institutions, healthcare organizations, and investors, making it one of the leading life sciences markets globally. The opening of this office positions Haynes Boone closer to the innovators and companies driving sector growth while building upon the firm’s established work with life sciences clients across California, as well as in Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., London, and beyond. The firm offers advisory services on intellectual property, corporate transactions, capital markets, litigation, regulatory matters, and other essential legal services.

“San Diego is a natural destination for Haynes Boone,” stated Firmwide Managing Partner Taylor Wilson. “We aim not just to respond to existing markets but to anticipate our clients’ future needs and invest ahead of them. San Diego’s prominence in life sciences, healthcare, and innovation renders it a crucial market for us and a place where we can continue to aid clients in navigating what lies ahead.”

The San Diego office also acts as a strategic hub for the firm’s more than 20 litigators based in Southern California. This includes Partner Kevin Crisp, who specializes in trade secret litigation across various sectors, including life sciences and high technology, alongside litigation related to mergers and acquisitions, securities issues, and complex business disputes.

This location enhances the firm’s established team in Orange County, which advises clients on significant intellectual property, commercial, employment, franchise, insurance recovery, and other intricate litigation matters.

New York Partner Rick Werner, co-chair of Haynes Boone’s Capital Markets and Securities Practice Group, has extensive experience advising life sciences companies in San Diego and other markets regarding financing, securities offerings, and strategic transactions.

“We have collaborated with local companies for years, assisting them in accessing capital and navigating the challenges that accompany growth,” Werner noted. “Having colleagues present in San Diego creates stronger local ties for these clients while streamlining our ability to combine capital markets expertise with other essential services.”

This office launch is part of a larger growth strategy for Haynes Boone. Earlier this year, the firm inaugurated a Boston office, further expanding its presence in another key center for innovation and finance. Haynes Boone has also undertaken significant expansions and relocations in New York and London, committing to state-of-the-art work environments designed to foster continued expansion and teamwork.
