Theyll get eaten alive by the bigger airlines flying low fare airlines isnt great as you think. Bad part about flying low fare airlines sure they have a low price but they havent added all the add ons like baggage fees and other things low fare airlines generally have crappy food and poor service to keep their ticket prices lower.

While I don't currently have the money or a Canadian passport, I may consider them for a trip to Japan in the future. With that, looking at pricing for the future the latest that could be booked currently is up to late October 2026 (about 8 and a half months in advance) with the frice for a 1 week round trip from Vancouver to Tokyo departing October 14th and returning October 21st the departure would be $410.67 CAD for the departure seat, packages (Flex Biz, Value & Premium) would be $114, $145, & $207 CAD respectively making the outbound cost $524.67 up to $617.67 CAD. The return flight seat cost would be $345.59 CAD with packages ranging from $100.21 up to $182.20 CAD for a return total of $445.80 to $527.79 for a round trip total of $970.47 to $1145.46 CAD (with one of the 3 packages selected each way, otherwise if no package and just the seat it would be $756.26 CAD), checking Google Flights it got the same flight (1 free carry on, additional fee for checked bag) for $757 up to $773 CAD depending on booking site option (linking up with no package selected so just the seat price).
For other flight options in Economy for those dates on Google Flights the next cheapest option would be $890 CAD with the return being the same (excludeing free carry on) but for the departure it would be Westjet (likely basic economy due to lack of included baggage) from Vancouver to Kelowna (with a overnight layover of 12 hours 35 minutes there) then Calgary with a 40 minute layover/connection to get their 787 to Tokyo, then for a extra $30 at $920 CAD it's the same but cuts out the Kelowna stop so Vancouver to Calgary before going to Tokyo (still without baggage). The cheapest (excludeing Zipair) would be Korean Air with a layover at Seoul (5 hour 30 minute overnight layover departure with the return being a 19 hour 20 minute layover) for $929 CAD and up based on booking option with no baggage listed though checking the booking through Korean instead of the 3rd multiple 3rd party sites (with Justfly being the cheapest with the $929 listing) as listed on Google Flights it shows it would be $978+ with Economy Saver that includes a free carry-on and checked bag being the $978 option or for an extra $150 CAD so $1128 CAD to get Economy Standard that just adds a 2nd checked bag (still no upgrades, no priority boarding and only partial refund)

No TV for an 11 hour flight? Thats a big no for me, fine for anything up to 5-6 hours though but after 6 hours you really need something to break it up

fun fact about zipair, prior to 2022, they had the letter "Z" in their tails and flew over russia, but after the start of the war, they had to change their livery so they wouldn't be mistaken as a russian military plane.

the meals really aren't pricey for what they are. For around $22 you'll get 2 meals, and if you add a bottle of water and a soda it'd come to about 26-28. You could buy that before the flight, but an equivalent meal would be expensive and cold. Honestly just get a book, or load up an ipad, bring a good neck pillow and eye mask, and you should be good

I've flown Zipair twice from LAX, and my only negative thing would be if you need to use their customer service using the chat on the website. Be prepared to ask your question twice. The first answer will be a canned response that won't help. Asking again will get the answer you need. Everything thing else is great. All of my flights have left on time, the onboard service was great, and the in-flight meals are pretty good if you order one.

But without offering a personal entertainment screen, how can we be annoyed by nonstop United commercials telling us to get the credit card
