A wildfire spreading in southern Orange County is endangering structures in Rancho Carrillo as firefighters work to contain the flames.
Initially, emergency responders assessed the fire’s size at 450 acres, but improved mapping revealed it spans only 220 acres. Given the fire’s proximity to Riverside County, officials noted that residents in that area will receive emergency alerts as new information becomes available.
As a result of the fire, State Route 74 is closed in the eastbound direction at Gateway in Rancho Mission Viejo and westbound at Grand in Lake Elsinore, according to CalFire.
A shelter-in-place order has been issued for Zone ORT01.
