A man known as “The Butt Sniffer,” previously arrested for inappropriate conduct at various Southern California establishments, has been apprehended again following allegations of similar behavior at two stores in Glendale.
Calese Crowder, 39, was taken into custody Friday afternoon after two Glendale retailers reported a man acting suspiciously and bending down near customers, according to Glendale police’s statement to NBC4 Investigates. Police reviewed surveillance footage from both locations, identifying Crowder as the suspect.
He was arrested shortly after in the 100 block of South Brand Boulevard for a suspected violation of his parole. Crowder is currently being held without bail.
Law enforcement sources informed NBC4 Investigates that one of the locations was a Marshalls clothing store. Around the same time, a grocery store in the 1500 block of Glenoaks Boulevard contacted 911 to report a customer bending down behind shoppers with intentions of sniffing, as per the sources.
A man charged with lewd behavior in businesses located in Burbank and Glendale received a jail sentence. Video aired on NBC4 News at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the case will be forwarded to prosecutors for potential criminal charges.
In July 2025, Crowder was arrested at the Burbank Nordstrom Rack after reports surfaced of someone wandering the women’s section and sexually harassing a female patron, according to the Burbank Police Department.
The following month, he was arrested again after allegedly sniffing a woman’s behind inside a Walgreens store in Burbank.
Crowder has a record of similar incidents in Glendale and Burbank dating back to 2021, as stated by police.
Crowder was arrested on November 24 for failing to comply with an annual sex-offender registration requirement for more than two months, according to Glendale police. The Glendale Police Department Assaults Unit apprehended Crowder at his home.
He was on parole for burglary at the time of his arrest.
In December, he was sentenced to 99 days in jail for violating his parole. Crowder appeared before a judge in April for additional parole violations and received a 105-day jail sentence.
