After heartbreak struck their nest last month, Big Bear’s cherished bald eagle pair Jackie and Shadow are starting fresh — the duo welcomed a new egg this week, marking the beginning of Jackie’s second clutch of the season.
The egg, Jackie’s third overall this year following two laid back in January, arrived Tuesday afternoon just before 3 p.m. Footage captured by the nest’s live camera shows the moment Jackie rose to her feet, unveiling the newly laid egg beneath her before carefully arranging the surrounding nest material and settling back down to incubate it.
The hopeful development comes on the heels of a devastating setback. In January, while both eagles were away from the nest, a pair of ravens moved in and destroyed the two eggs Jackie had laid, leaving the couple to start over entirely.
