WOODLAND HILLS, Ca. The Los Angeles Rams secured a victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday evening at SoFi Stadium. After the game, Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford, alongside several teammates
Earlier this week, McVay addressed the condition of his team heading into the matchup.
Q: What are the challenges of stepping in for players like Rob Havenstein, Tyler Higbee, and Quentin Lake when they are all key leaders on the team?
“First and foremost, those players will continue to support and uplift their teammates. We have faith in many individuals. You don’t simply replace players of that caliber. Instead, you encourage those stepping into roles to showcase their best selves.”
“This is part of the business that can be disheartening. It’s one of my least favorite aspects. Witnessing the dedication, time, and effort that go into preparing and realizing how valuable these chances are is tough. They will still be here and can positively influence the team. I know all three players would be eager to compete alongside their teammates.”
“They embody everything admirable about this organization and will contribute in unique ways. You cannot avoid these difficult losses. Our league is full of such instances and we have faced them before. There’s strong faith in those taking on new responsibilities, ready to step up and perform at their highest level. They don’t need to try to emulate ‘Q’, Rob, or ‘Higs’, but to be their best selves, which is what we aim for.”
Q: Will Josh Wallace take Lake’s position?
“I thought he performed well,” McVay remarked. “It’s something we will assess as the week progresses. What I can affirm about Josh is that he did extremely well the other day. He stepped in and played nearly 30 snaps, showcasing consistency. He has the ability to fill various roles and demonstrates great smarts, instincts, overall awareness, and both physical and mental toughness.”
“He performed admirably against a formidable team, quickly finding his stride. His capacity to communicate and grasp the overall strategy, especially regarding the back end, speaks volumes about his capability.”
“[Cornerback] Roger’s [McCreary] is someone we’ve been focusing on, and that’s definitely a possibility. [Assistant Head Coach/Pass Game Coordinator] Aubrey [Pleasant] is excellent at preparing these players, along with [Safeties] Coach [Chris] Beake. This week will be crucial for both of them.”
