Hiking San Jacinto from the Palm Springs Tram

San Jacinto is one of the most approachable of the 10000-foot peaks in Southern California. I always enjoy taking the tram up …

  1. Would you consider this hike as a moderate hike? Or doable for someone in good physical and cardiovascular shape? Ive done plenty of moderate hikes. Just curious

  2. The Holy Land 🌎💜🏔️

  3. Just bagged this peak and i died like 8 times on the way up lol

  4. May I know is there a good place to stay prior the night catching the early morning tram? Like hotel or campground?

  5. Hi Chris, nice video. I was wondering, when did you go there? Which month? I am planning for Thanksgiving but don't want it to be too cold. Would appreciate your feedback.

  6. Nice hiking area. Lovely place to explore Very nice sharing. Thanks for taking us along! Have a great week!

  7. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  8. Loved it !!

  9. My favorite mountain in SoCal! I’ve done the C2C hike several times, but from the tram is much more enjoyable. And still a great workout 👍

  10. Thanks for the preview. Want to get up there, not sure I’ll make the 8 mile summit trail.

  11. I went there once. And i ate all the snow that was white.

  12. Beautiful hike.

  13. So how hard in general is the hike aside from being long. Is it a very rocky trail? Would you say it for experienced hikers only? Trying to see if this is something I can accomplish with my tweens in May

  14. I've done it twice from the Tram. Once from Idyllwild. That was a long day.

  15. Thanks Josh. Would be looking forward to doing this hike

  16. Nice, are there any scary areas like devils backbone on mount baldy?

  17. excellent video

  18. Did this hike a few days ago, but we went up from the Idyllwild side.

  19. Cactus to clouds. Aka C2C via Skyline Trail. Palm springs museum to San Jacinto peak. 10 miles. 10,000 feet of gain. Tram back down. 2013. Never again!!

  20. I love that scenery

  21. Wow, l just live that scenery! Thanks

  22. My kids and I spent a night in the storm shelter near the sumitt. What a great night. We looked up out names in the guest book and found our signatures from 4 years earlier on a similar hike. The trip from the peak down through Strawberry junction then out in Idlewild village was just spectacular. All downhill and an easy hike.

  23. when is the best time to visit there if i want to see snow???

  24. Could you see the ocean ?

  25. So cool! I watched the construction of the tramway in the 1960's. been there many times but never hiked to the peak. Thanks

  26. I watched this out of jealousy. I just visited San Jacinto Aerial tram, and tried convincing my group to hike to the peak, but they were set on only doing the Round Valley Hike, I was bummed but capitulated.
Next time I'll go to the summit.
Nice video, thank you for sharing.

  27. We took the Tram to Mt. Jacinto, but my friend did the hike!! Best getaway, great post!!

  28. BEEN A LONG TIME , I'VE BEEN THERE 2..

  29. HELP
    how does one camp there??!

  30. We used to hike to the peak from Idylwild in the 70s. One winter we took the tram up and hiked about 2 miles out and camped in the snow. Those concrete switchbacks coming back up were iced over. We were very glad to get back to the tram.

  31. thank you. That was a long hike even with the tram.

  32. My first trip to the summit of San Jacinto was in 1973. We chose to make it an overnight backpacking trip starting from Humber Park on the Idyllwild side. It was in December but very little snow most of the way. Some years later on one of my day hikes using the Palm Springs Tram, I had a close encounter with a glider. I had just passed the stone hut and was headed toward the peak. Suddenly, over the horizon, a glider passed overhead so close it scared me. I never saw it coming and because it was a glider there was virtually no noise. This was in summer and the glider was using the thermal currents emitting from the desert floor to propel the ride.

  33. You had me up until “12 mile hike” 🤣🤣

  34. Good job

  35. Josh, thank you very much for sharing to us your informative videos. God bless you.

  36. this is great !

  38. We just did this hike in February, looks like the snow has melted!

  39. I did that same hike a few months ago (before snow), and happened upon a park ranger, who told me that depending on how clear it was, from the summit if you can see the Pacific Ocean to the west, then 180 degrees away, you can see the Arizona desert. And when I got to the summit, it was indeed a very clear day, and I could easily see Catalina Island on the western horizon. So behind me was the Arizona desert. I could see across the width of California!

  41. Very cool! I took that tram once way back (most likely well before you were born) and we had snow at the top. I thought the view from there was great, but wow at the real top! Nice to know they have the hiker’s hut up there 😳

  42. Always enjoy your adventures.

  43. Josh, how ironic is this?! Me and my friends are doing this exact hike from the tram on Saturday!

  44. Now that ive watch this Vid… Im definitely going this weekend to Joshua Tree to find the "heartrock" and in the after gonna do the tram ride… Thanks for this awesome informative Vid once again !

  45. No cactus to clouds!? 😉

Awesome video though. I have wanted to do this one for a long time! Have you heard the song San Jacinto by Peter Gabriel?

  46. great

  47. The tram ride alone looked beautiful enough, but the view from the summit was amazing. Long hike, but looks like it was worth it. Very informative video! Glad you found snow, but did he put the ice axe to use? 😂
