LA District Attorney Will Prosecute If You Fly Drone Near Fires

A super scooper plane engaged in battling the Palisades Fire collided with a drone on Thursday, rendering it inoperable until at least Monday while repairs are underway, officials reported.

The aircraft was one of only two super scoopers available, according to authorities.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman issued a stern warning, stating that drone operators will face legal consequences.

“If you think it’s acceptable to fly a drone in restricted areas for personal entertainment or to capture exclusive footage, you are mistaken,” Hochman said. “In these prohibited zones, you will be arrested, prosecuted, and punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

At least 10 fatalities have been reported, with Los Angeles County Sheriff predicting the death toll will rise as devastating wildfires sweep through Southern California. Dry and windy conditions have intensified the crisis, leaving officials struggling to manage the unprecedented destruction.

Thousands of firefighters are working to combat at least five major wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The largest, the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades, has burned over 20,000 acres, destroyed thousands of structures, and is only 8% contained. Meanwhile, the Eaton Fire in Altadena has spread across more than 13,000 acres and remains completely uncontained. Over 150,000 residents are currently under evacuation orders.
