LOS ANGELES — Sheriff’s deputies apprehended a man following a prolonged standoff after he sideswiped vehicles during a tumultuous pursuit through the busy regions of Southern California’s San Fernando Valley on Monday afternoon.
Shortly before 5 p.m. local time, the suspect emerged from his car only to be swiftly tackled by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy. He was quickly surrounded by deputies and taken into custody, effectively concluding the hour-long standoff.
The chase culminated near Vineland Avenue and Hortense Street in North Hollywood after the suspect ran a red light and was struck from behind by another vehicle at the intersection.
The suspect subsequently collided with a median, causing the car’s airbags to deploy, which led to a swift conclusion of the chase.
Numerous sheriff’s deputies gathered behind the vehicle and tried to extract the driver, yet the suspect refused to comply.
AIR7, in collaboration with our partner station, ABC7 Eyewitness News in Los Angeles, was monitoring the pursuit around 3:15 p.m. as the suspect navigated through traffic on surface streets in the Sun Valley and Sunland neighborhoods.
Officials state the suspect was sought for assault with a deadly weapon.
