  5. Lots of people complain about long flights, but those folks are usually back in cattle class, which I simply could not endure. I am not huge, but I am 22" wide at the shoulders, so I cannot fit into a 17" seat without touching my neighbor. A few years back, I put together a trip to New Zealand for a bunch of friends from all over the world. For myself, I turned it into a round-the-world trip. For just 270,000 miles, I flew Business Class on five different airlines, including visits to Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Spain, and Germany. The best part was flying Qatar's QSuites from Sydney to Barcelona. The two flights totaled 22 hours, broken up by a 9-hour layover at the fantabulous Al Mourjan lounge in Doha, which was like staying at the Four Seasons. Qatar Airways took great care of me for 31 hours, and I literally did not want it to end. If that had been the entirety of my vacation, it would have been a happy one! Sadly, those valuable redemptions are almost non-existent nowadays. Delta wants 820,000 SkyPesos for a roundtrip ticket to Australia in Delta One. If you take a spouse or friend, you need more than 1.6 million miles. With just one credit card partner, how can anybody accumulate that many Delta miles?

  6. I love that long distance travel is so easy nowadays. My family moved from Italy to Detroit in 1936. When my father's oldest brother then moved to California to start a construction business, it was simply understood that "we will never see Dominic again," and they never did. At that time, getting from Detroit to California could take as long as the trip from Italy!

  10. The Delta One seat is nice but on a flight from IAD to ICN it is claustrophobic. Food is average and United seems a bit better but it’s hit or miss. I’ve had a chicken thigh as a choice for dinner on D1, and that’s pretty lame.

  12. I prefer breaking up a long flight. Flying to Australia from west coast, I like to stop in Honolulu each way for a couple days.

  24. Oh please , you must be getting a kick back from them to be like everything is so great! Please! that food looked like dog food and the presentation for an international flight is a joke.. your reviews are NOT subjective and therefore not worth it… How do I know this? because I was a Flight Attendant and ALL US carriers are a joke when it comes to service and food presentations, just look at Emirates for example. US carriers will never learn in the boardroom..

  35. Great review! My last international flight was Delta and Air France to Douala Cameroon Africa, and I was in coach. It was so miserable, cramped and crowded. I was in an aisle seat and there was a big guy in the middle seat who fell asleep, and was pushed up against me. The person in front of me tilted their seat all the way back. I am going back, but this time I am going to splurge on Delta One and enjoy it! No more suffering in Coach!
