LONG BEACH, CA — Two people were hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting in Long Beach Tuesday afternoon, police said.

It’s unclear what sparked the shooting, but police say it happened just after 3 p.m. in the area of 20th Street and Long Beach Boulevard.

There, officers found one person with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department. He was taken Long Beach Fire personnel to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

A second person wounded in the shooting, a boy, took himself to a hospital after being hit by gunfire multiple times in the upper body, police said. He is currently in critical but stable condition, they added.

“The motive, circumstances of the shooting, and suspect information are under investigation,” police said in a statement Wednesday.
